Where am I going when I get there?
Starting Point: Begin the walk from the Hall car park or the Countryside Centre car park, depending on which loop you’d like to start with. Follow the yellow oak leaf markers all the way round.
-
East Loop:
- Start from Post 1 near the Hall car park. Follow the yellow oak leaf markers through wooded paths lined with wildflowers like bluebells and wild garlic in the spring.
- The trail leads through a more forested area, perfect for spotting birds and wildlife. There are wide paths here, making it easier for prams and younger walkers. Along the way, you’ll pass picnic spots and benches for breaks.
- Finish this loop by returning to the Hall’s lawn, where you can explore the Formal Gardens or stop for a treat at the café.
-
West Loop:
- Start from Post 15 near the Countryside Centre, or combine it with the east loop for a longer walk. This loop takes you around an area that used to be a colliery, offering a bit more adventure for curious children.
- The terrain is unsurfaced and can be muddy, so wellies or sturdy shoes are recommended. Along the way, you’ll pass fields and meadows with plenty of room to run around.
- Keep an eye out for ponds and streams, like Oakwell Beck, where children can spot frogs, dragonflies, and other wildlife. The west loop also offers great views of the surrounding countryside, including the Emley Moor Mast and Castle Hill in the distance.
- Finish the loop by returning to the Countryside Centre, where there’s a small playground for kids to burn off any remaining energy.
Don't fancy it alone?
We do all of these walks regularly on a Friday morning, meeting at 10 am. Check out our sessions page to see where we are this week!
Here’s a comment – we’d love your feedback on our new project!
Great work, however a lot of txt, is it all necessary, or is there a way to make it less blocky. Maybe extend the txt boxes to make it feel like less
Looks great! Only one consideration is some photos of the key places you’re pointing out as landmarks so you can identify where you are when you’re walking. This is great, something I’ve been looking for! Good luck getting funding for more!
Love this!
All the information I’d be looking for prior to a walk.
Sometime I avoid walks with little legs, if it’s not one I’ve done before.
They will inevitably get tired and cranky, which isn’t helped if I get lost or too far from the car.
I’d love an additional section about any special extras?
We often look for shallow ponds where we can take the electric toy boat.
Is there any turn offs?
Is it possible to break txt up with pictures of what to follow where to go.
Could maybe also ask people using the resources to send in thier favourite selfie or pictures of them exploring the route.
